The week before us is officially Thanksgiving week. Most of us will take a break from our regular routine to enjoy a day of Thanksgiving. Our celebration may include a nice meal, fellowship with family and friends, and a time of rest and relaxation. I have grown more and more appreciative of this holiday time as I have grown older. In the first place, I have so very much to be thankful for, that it is joy to be reminded of the theme of Thanksgiving.
As Christians, thankfulness is to be a regular ingredient in our lives. Even when we pray, we are to do so with thanksgiving. The month of November, as our stewardship month, has reminded us that a great part of any gift is a heart full of gratitude and thanksgiving. Having a grateful heart will do wonders for anyone. All too often, our focus is on things we do not have while overlooking all that God has given. Invariably those whose hearts are in love with Jesus and whose lives are focused on Him will enjoy being thankful.
As a church, we should pause and give our wonderful Savior praise for His goodness. He has truly blessed us this year. Just think of the new members added to our fellowship, the growth in Christ we have enjoyed from His Word, and the inspiration of our services. The souls saved and lives strengthened are all notes of praise.
We should all lift our hands toward heaven and be thankful. Be thankful to Him and praise His name!
