The Time of Your Life

Today we recognize time as a major part of our stewardship. Time is truly a gift from God. Time originated with God and is an invention designed especially for man. One day this process called “time” will cease and each of us will give an account as to how we have used that portion ascribed to us.

I read of a California lady, Mary Christian, who turned 113 years old, making her, according to this article, the oldest woman in our nation. As I read the article I recalled a couple in our church several years ago having a perfectly formed little baby that lived only a few minutes. I walked by the side of the dad as he carried a tiny casket to a small grave site. Both these illustrations remind me that all men do not have the same amount of time.

Many do not use the time granted from the Lord for God’s glory. It has been said that men spend their health getting wealth, then their wealth trying to get their health back. The Bible asks the question, “What is your life?”, then immediately answers by saying “it is just a vapor”.

All men will give an account of their time. Because we face that future event we should consider time’s brevity and avoid the presumption that we have more than the moment. We certainly do not know what is on the morrow nor what events a day brings forth. Time, like all the ingredients of our lives, is owned by the Sovereign of our universe and should be managed properly by us.

We should not boast about our time. If we live past our threescore and ten, it is but a grain of sand on the shores of eternity. Our lives at best are one tick of the clock compared to all of time and eternity. Think today of this precious possession you have and determine to be a good steward of your time.
