History of Fairview

Our Beginning

On Wednesday night September 9, 1953 at 8:00, believers met at the Fairview church for the purpose of drawing up plans, preparatory to the organization of a local church. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. William F. Patterson Mr. and Mr.s William H. Patterson Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson
and Rev. and Mrs. Charles Shock.
After a season of prayer, Rev. Shock read from Acts 2:41-47 and called the meeting to order. A motion was made that the proposed church be named Fairview Baptist Church. On November 22, 1953, during the Sunday morning worship service at the Fairview Baptist Church, those desiring to be charter members, whose names are listed on the first page of the chronological membership roll, each one having previously professed salvation and baptism by immersion, gathered together at the front of the church, joining hands in fellowship, desiring to be recognized as members of the Fairview Baptist Church. Rev. Shock gave the consecration prayer.
On Sunday afternoon, December 6, 1953 at 2:00, a public recognition service was held for the Fairview Baptist Church at the church. Rev. McGinnis gave the consecration prayer. Dr. Mark Cameron, Dean of Tennessee Temple Bible School, gave the sermon.

Pastor Scallions is Called

In September, 1972, Fairview Baptist Church called Jack Scallions as its pastor.  Pastor Scallions had been pastoring the Northside Baptist Church in Dalton, GA, while attending seminary.  When Pastor Scallions came, Fairview Baptist Church had been through six pastors in twenty years, and had only one building.  Under Pastor Scallions’ leadership, the church and it’s ministries grew into the multifaceted ministry it is today.

The Beginnings of Camp Fairview

In 1973, a local man donated over one hundred acres in Riceville, TN to be used as a camp for boys and girls and Camp Fairview was established.  Through the last three decades, Camp Fairview has been used by God in reaching many hundreds of children with the gospel, and moulding many a young life.

The Beginnings of Fairview Christian Academy

In 1978, the Lord led Pastor Scallions to start the McMinn Christian School as a place where families could educate their boys and girls in a Christian environment.   After a few years of operating under that name, the school’s name was changed to Fairview Christian Academy.  FCA is currently in its thirty-third year of operation and enrolls students from preschool through twelfth grade.
